On 3 and 4 July this year, we were delighted to attend the European Fusion Business Forum in Berlin hosted by the European Commission. A fascinating event, the forum was a chance for private companies to come together to collaborate and understand how best to engage with Fusion for Energy (F4E) and ITER, one of the world’s largest scientific partnerships, aiming to demonstrate fusion as a viable and sustainable source of energy
Bill Huang, Sales Director, attended on behalf of the team to take part in discussions with industry leaders on the future of fusion in the EU.
“The EU Fusion Business Forum serves as a crucial platform for various stakeholders in the fusion industry,” said Bill following the event. “ We were able to gain insights into different fusion technologies within the EU and their current status whilst also exploring F4E’s industrial policy and its Technology Development Programme, fostering collaboration and innovation. It was exciting to see a range of presentations focused on business prospects related to the ITER project and other public and private fusion initiatives. Attending events such as these is such an important opportunity for one-to-one meetings, allowing us to connect and explore potential collaborations and help drive the industry forward.”
He continued, “It is interesting to note that whilst at the moment funding opportunities in the EU for startup fusion and smaller supply chain companies are more limited than those in the USA and UK, pilot development programmes are underway which show an exciting pathway to progress within the fusion industry. The Forum is a vital arena to meet and to understand how the commercial fusion industry can collaborate with F4E and ITER, and it appears that this is an evolving topic and deeper collaboration may be on the horizon.”
